Calibration of data with correlator block dropouts

Hi guys, I'm calibrating some 16cm CABB data which was taken over a period where the correlator blocks dropped out in both IFs mid-observation. The observer appears to have stopped the obs, re-booted the blocks in question and gone back to the primary cal to set up again (dcal, pcal, acal etc), but ...

16cm CABB flagging strategy

Hi guys, I'm using the sumthreshold algorithm in PGFLAG to flag 16cm CABB data. I wanted to know if anyone has developed a fairly robust approach to flagging full stokes I, Q, U and V data in this band with PGFLAG in terms of settings for the sumthreshold parameters and the automated command sequenc...

Automated sumthreshold routine in PGFLAG kills real flux?

Hi guys, I have been trying to create some Stokes I spectra from various point sources that I have been imaging through the 16 cm CABB band, and I've come up against an interesting/frustrating (mainly frustrating) problem. The issue is that I have noticed pronounced 'dips' in the Stokes I spectrum, ...

Self-calibration

Hi guys, I have a question about whether or not GPCAL can be used instead of SELFCAL on the CA if the source is at the phase centre, but not at the primary beam centre. I explain what I mean a bit more below. I have some mosaic data which I am trying to improve the calibration for. In one of the poi...

Re: Birdies?

Thanks Jamie. OK. I think I can see that now. The observer has re-booted the block an done a dcal, pcal and acal about 1/3 of the way through a 12 hour run. This means that the first part of the observation and last part will have to be calibrated separately, yes? Or can I just use GPBREAK to insert...

Birdies?

Hi guys, I have been looking at some data just after it has been ATLODed into MIRIAD format. I ran UVFLAG for the edge channels in the band (16cm CABB band), then for shadow(25). I then ran UVFSTATS on it to check the flagged percentages straight off the bat. The usual regions of the spectrum that a...

Actually scratch that last post - seems like a chronic case of RFI.

Re: Bad feed? To flag or not to flag - that is my question.

Actually - while I'm on the topic I just looked at some observations of 1934 from a different epoch (1.5B config), and on the short baseline I'm getting this: Screen Shot 2013-02-15 at 11.52.10 AM.png This doesn't look like the same problem to me - it looks like actual fringes. Could this be the Sun...

Re: Bad feed? To flag or not to flag - that is my question.

OK - thanks Jamie. I'll try it and see how I get on.

Out of interest, how stable is the ATCA bandpass in general? Could I potentially use the 1934 observation from the previous day instead if it is unaffected?
