Hi Andrew,

thanks for those investigations, it does make it clear that it is indeed an effect due to differences in beam size for cleaned point sources and noise (and not a linmos effect).

From your description it is not quite clear to me if you are using convol with he 'final' option or not. Using the final option would only be possible if the mosaic beam size is larger than all the input beams, but it should get all images (noise and sources) at the same resolution. Trying to do the same with tapering is harder, but you may be able to come up with a reasonable scaling with frequency for the taper that keeps the beam size roughly constant. The reason this is harder is because the taper and the uv coverage interact and the beam size may not always vary linearly with the taper size.

Thanks for that. I am using convol with options=final. We'll see how I go with tapering...
