transfix (or equivalent) task

Post by hbignall »

Running Miriad task 'transfix' used to be the recommended way to correct for polarisation leakage due to antenna orientation errors for sources close to declinations -30 around transit.
Is this still the case, and does the task still work, or has it been superseded? Where can the antenna pointing parameters be found?

Cheers,
Hayley

Hi Hayley,

I suspect the task will still work, but I have never tried it myself. The task directly modifies the data, so it should work even when gpcal is run with nfbin>1 to compute frequency dependent leakages.

The pparams.dat file now lives in the following location:
xbones:/atomsexport/caobsonline/caobs_pparams/pparams.dat

beware that a new copy is written every time a pointing solution is done (incl reference pointing).

Older versions of it are archived like this:
xbones:/archive/backup/caobsonline/caobs_pparams/pparams.dat.20121031-2132

The parameters are also available in Monica, but it would be a bit of work to massage them into the pparams.dat format expected.

Cheers,

Mark
