7mm Calibration Question

Post by bnorfolk »

Hi,

I'm trying to follow the miriad user guide and reduce some 7mm observations, I'm looking at both the 12mm and 3mm sections for ways to do this. In the more detailed cm reduction in Jamie's tutorial, auto flagging (pgflag) was used on the the bandpass/fluxcal cal. Now at 7mm I have a different bandpass cal and do apply pgflag to this target, however I'm unsure if I should still apply auto flagging on the flux cal? My current steps are:

1. mfcal the bp cal
2. pgflag the bpcal (possible manual flagging with blflag as well)
3. mfcal the bpcal
4. gpcopy the bpcal solution to the flux and phase cal
5. gpcal the fluxcal
6. pgflag the phase cal (possible manual flagging with blflag as well)
7. gpcal the phase cal
8. gpboot the phase cal with the flux cal at an identical elevation time
9. mfboot
10. apply the solutions to the science target

So should I do a pgflag on the fluxcal i.e. in before step 5?

Thanks,
Brodie

Hi Brodie,

Thanks for your question. In general 7mm data doesn't really need the type of automatic flagging provided by pgflag; that's more for bands where there is a lot of RFI. Still, automatic flagging shouldn't hurt either, and it really is up to you to decide whether you include it or not, based on what your data looks like.

If you've done the procedure you outlined in your post, and you're happy with the results, I think you're fine to continue on.
cheers
