velsw not working

Post by emonts »

I cannot use the task 'velsw' for a WSRT data set.
When giving 'axis=optical, barycentre' I get the error:
### Fatal Error: Unrecognised conversion type, in coSpcSet
and the header information in the file is not changed either

Weird thing is that I did exactly the same thing with exactly the same data set a few weeks ago and that worked ok.
I did notice that the task has been revised recently:
velsw: Revision 1.3, 2011/02/18 05:16:10 UTC
Is it possible something (accidentally) changed?

Yes, the last commit log for this task was:

/nfs/atapplic/miriad/.rcs/prog/velsw.for,v
----------------------------
revision 1.3 locked by: cal103;
date: 2011/02/18 05:16:10; author: cal103; state: Exp; lines: +27 -26
Use coSpcSet in place of coVelSet (still needs to be generalised to
support other spectral types).

So it seems that the conversion that you want has been removed, but will likely be added back in at some point. If you want, you can talk to Mark Calabretta and let him know your priority for a specific conversion to be added.

Thanks Jamie,

I suspect this it high priority for everyone doing HI work, given that the recorded data are in radio definition of velocity, while almost everything published in optical velocity. I will talk with Mark Calabretta about it.
