Upper limit on uv file sizes in Miriad?

Is there a hard upper limit/maximum size for uv files in Miriad? I.e. Is there some uv file size above which INVERT chokes, or which other tasks would spit the dummy on? Does the answer depend on the task in question? Or is it simply a case of having enough computer speed/storage/RAM etc?

Cheers,

Craig.

Hi Craig,

over the last two years we've tried to eliminate problems like this and at least for 64bit Linux and OSX we think there are no built in limits on file size anymore. However we've run into problems from time to time (e.g. scratch file size), so we may encounter more as we deal with larger and larger datasets. In particular, it is not possible to request more than 8 GB of memory in once chunk at the moment. For large mosaics invert currently fails due to this problem, not uv file size. The maximum size of an image is also limited to 32768*32768.

So the advice is to try it and let us know if things fail.

Cheers,

Mark
