Re: Self-calibration of CABB data

Hi Nick and Mark, I'm also interested in self-calibrating my 16 cm data, and based on what I know about the various miriad tasks that could be used for this goal I come to the conclusion that at the moment one can only uses divide-and-conquer in self calibration. I'll explain how I come to this conc...

Querying ATOA for 16 cm CABB data

-> select band name = 10/13 cm in the ATOA. My guess is that the ATOA checks the centre frequency of the observations, which is 2100 MHz for observations in the 16 cm band. This frequency falls inside the specified range for the old 10/13 cm band, so that you need to select the 10/13 cm band when yo...

Re: Possible problem with plotting polarizations in uvspec?

Hi Mark, Thanks for your answer. I know about the parallactic angle effects in uvplt, I was now looking into how uvspec might be used to identify bad data (in particular bandpass problems, so I was looking at XX/YY/XY/YX instead of the Stokes parameters, where such problems are more difficult to tra...

Possible problem with plotting polarizations in uvspec?

Hi, I'm using uvspec to plot Stokes XY and YX, and I noticed that Stokes U is very different from what I would expect based on XY and YX, i.e. U = 1/2 (XY + YX). I've included a screenshot of the uvspec window here: 0201-440_Stokes.tiff I'm plotting only the real part of the visibilities, but this c...

Re: gpnorm gives fatal error when bandpass tables are presen

Thanks - I think I identified the problem on my side. (I was running my cal. pipeline in a terminal window that still used the old version of miriad). Now I get the familiar ### Informational: Bandpass tables present ### Fatal Error: GPNORM does not work correctly in this case back (a blessing and a...

Re: gpnorm gives fatal error when bandpass tables are presen

Hi,

I downloaded the latest version of miriad on the 30th of May 2011, and I saw that it uses the old version of gpnorm, dating back to '97. Have there been new developments with the more recent version from the 28th of Sept. 2009?

cheers,
Dominic

Re: mfcal bug fix, redo reduction

Hi Jamie, I've downloaded the latest miriad binary distribution for Mac OS X on Sat. the 28th of May, but the mfcal it contains is from the 17th of Dec '09. The ftp site from which I downloaded the miriad binary says that the binary was last modified on the 26th of May; will the miriad distribution ...

problems with running gpcal on CABB data at 16 cm

Hi,

I've heard that we still need to split up the wide-bandwidth CABB data at 16cm for polarization calibration, so that gpcal can run its course. Is this correct, and if so, could you explain in a few lines why this is?

cheers,
Dominic
